Legal
Terms of Service.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the ctrl alt doc Discord bot and related services provided by ctrl alt doc ("we", "us", or "our").
By using the bot, you agree to these Terms.
The service
The ctrl alt doc Discord bot provides a Discord interface for searching documentation hosted by a configured ctrl alt doc documentation server.
The bot currently provides the /docs search <query> command.
The bot is an integration layer between Discord and the configured documentation server. It does not itself own or operate every ctrl alt doc documentation deployment that it may connect to.
Acceptable use
You agree to use the bot lawfully and responsibly.
You must not use the bot to:
- violate applicable law or regulations;
- violate Discord's applicable terms, policies, or rules;
- abuse, disrupt, or interfere with the bot or its supporting infrastructure;
- intentionally submit malicious or harmful input;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to systems or data;
- use the service to facilitate fraud, abuse, or other unlawful activity.
Do not submit sensitive information
The search query accepts arbitrary text.
You should not submit passwords, API keys, authentication credentials, confidential business information, private information, or other sensitive information through documentation searches.
The bot does not currently provide automatic redaction or filtering that guarantees such information will be removed.
Documentation and content
The bot returns documentation provided by the configured ctrl alt doc documentation server.
The bot does not establish ownership of that documentation. Copyright, licensing, trademarks, and other rights relating to documentation remain with their respective owners or licensors.
You are responsible for complying with any applicable licence or usage terms associated with documentation you access through the service.
Availability
We aim to keep the bot and associated services available, but we do not guarantee that they will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
The bot may become unavailable because of maintenance, development, infrastructure failures, Discord outages, ctrl alt doc server outages, or other circumstances outside our control.
Search results may also depend on the availability and configuration of the ctrl alt doc documentation server.
Third-party services
The bot relies on Discord and the configured ctrl alt doc documentation server.
Those services are operated independently and may have their own terms, policies, availability, and data-processing practices.
Your use of Discord remains subject to Discord's applicable terms and policies.
Self-hosted deployments
ctrl alt doc is intended to support self-hosted deployments.
A self-hosted operator may control their own:
- Discord application;
- bot hosting;
- ctrl alt doc documentation server;
- infrastructure;
- logs;
- configuration; and
- retention practices.
If you interact with a self-hosted ctrl alt doc deployment operated by another party, that operator may have responsibilities relating to their own deployment and data processing.
Changes to the service
ctrl alt doc is under active development. We may change, improve, suspend, or discontinue features of the bot or related services.
Features described in documentation or on the ctrl alt doc website may change as the project develops.
Termination
We may restrict or terminate access to the bot where reasonably necessary, including where the service is being abused, used unlawfully, or operated in violation of these Terms.
A Discord server administrator may also remove the bot from their server at any time.
Disclaimer
The bot and associated services are provided on an "as available" basis.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, we make no guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, availability, or suitability of information returned through the bot.
You are responsible for how you use documentation and information obtained through the service.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, ctrl alt doc and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or other losses arising from your use of, or inability to use, the bot or associated services.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the ctrl alt doc project develops.
The updated version will be published on the ctrl alt doc website with a revised "Last updated" date.
