Privacy Policy.

Last updated: September 11th, 2026

ctrl alt doc ("we", "us", or "our") provides documentation tools and integrations, including the ctrl alt doc Discord bot.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the ctrl alt doc Discord bot currently processes and how that information is handled.

What the bot does

The ctrl alt doc Discord bot provides a Discord interface for searching a configured ctrl alt doc documentation site.

A typical request looks like /docs search <query>. The bot processes the search query and sends it to the configured ctrl alt doc documentation server. The resulting documentation matches are then returned to Discord.

Information the bot processes

Search queries

The primary user-provided information processed by the bot is the search query supplied to /docs search.

The query is temporarily processed by the bot and sent to the configured ctrl alt doc server through its search API.

The bot does not currently maintain a search-history database or deliberately persist search queries.

Because search queries accept arbitrary text, users should not submit passwords, API keys, credentials, confidential business information, or other sensitive information as part of a search query.

Discord information

The bot does not currently intentionally collect or store:

  • Discord user IDs
  • usernames
  • display names
  • user profiles
  • message history
  • server-member profiles
  • user preferences
  • command history

The bot uses Discord slash commands and does not currently read ordinary Discord messages. It does not request Discord's privileged Message Content intent.

Temporary processing

While a command is being processed, information may temporarily exist in application memory, including:

  • the Discord interaction
  • the search query
  • the ctrl alt doc API response
  • the formatted Discord response

The bot does not currently persist this information in a user database or other application data store.

Information the bot does not currently collect

The bot does not currently use:

  • analytics
  • telemetry
  • behavioural tracking
  • advertising
  • user profiling
  • external AI services
  • AI search or summarisation
  • payment services
  • email collection
  • location collection
  • OAuth login
  • a persistent user database
  • a hosted search provider

Information processed by other services

Discord

Discord processes Discord interactions and other information according to its own systems and policies. The ctrl alt doc bot does not control Discord's data processing or retention.

ctrl alt doc documentation server

The search query is sent to the ctrl alt doc server configured for the bot.

A ctrl alt doc server or its hosting infrastructure may maintain ordinary HTTP or access logs. The ctrl alt doc Discord bot does not control the logging or retention practices of a particular ctrl alt doc deployment.

Bot hosting infrastructure

The bot may produce limited standard output or error logs, such as connection or error information.

These logs may be captured by the infrastructure used to host the bot. Retention of those logs depends on the deployment environment.

Data retention

The bot does not currently define a retention period for user data because it does not maintain a persistent user-data store.

The bot does not deliberately retain:

  • user IDs
  • usernames
  • display names
  • search queries
  • search history
  • command history
  • user profiles
  • user preferences

Infrastructure-level retention is deployment-dependent. Discord's own retention practices and the retention of logs maintained by a particular ctrl alt doc server or hosting provider are outside the bot's control.

Data deletion

The bot does not currently provide an in-bot data deletion command or user-data management system.

This is because the bot does not currently maintain a persistent database of user records.

Information retained by Discord, a hosting provider, or a particular ctrl alt doc deployment is subject to the policies and controls of those services.

Self-hosted deployments

ctrl alt doc is intended to support self-hosted deployments. Different operators may run their own Discord application, bot, ctrl alt doc server, and hosting infrastructure.

As a result, the exact infrastructure, storage location, logging, and retention practices of a particular deployment may differ.

If you use a ctrl alt doc Discord bot operated by someone other than us, that operator may be responsible for its own deployment and associated data processing.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as the ctrl alt doc Discord bot develops.

If future versions introduce features such as persistent storage, analytics, AI services, or additional third-party integrations, this policy will be updated to reflect those changes.
